Soprano (4-6 Points)

as Anna in Frozen)
Soprano is the highest voice part in a choir or operatic setting. Most sopranos are female and have a vocal range of approximately G3-C6, although this varies from person to person. They transition around an Eb4 from their chest voice into their mixed voice and around an F5 from their mixed voice into their head voice. Sopranos are generally most comfortable singing at the top of the mixed voice and the lower part of their head voice. They sing soprano in a chorus setting. Notable musical roles for sopranos include Anna in Frozen, Christine in Phantom of the Opera and Glinda in Wicked. AC & the Virtual Virtuosos has one regular soprano, April Cox.
Mezzo Soprano (7-9)

Mezzo Sopranos often have similar vocal ranges to sopranos, however, they are distinguished by their higher counterparts by often having heavier voices and being more comfortable in the middle of their range. The typical range for a mezzo soprano is around an F3-F5, but many may be able to sing higher or lower. Their transitions occur around an F3 and an Eb5. Mezzo Sopranos are usually female and typically sing either alto or second soprano in a traditional choir. Notable musical roles for mezzo sopranos include Elsa from Frozen, Ariel in The Little Mermaid, and Elphaba in Wicked. These are often referred to as mezzo soprano with extended range roles. Mezzo Soprano is the most common female voice type. AC & the Virtual Virtuosos has two regular Mezzo Sopranos: Marissa Mann and Carol Turnage.
Alto (10-14)

Let me start by saying there is not an official voice category of alto. However, for the purposes of our shows, we do have an alto category. Many mezzo soprano and contralto singers start in this category as we figure out their voice parts. Vocal ranges are often around G3-C5, with possible extension to E3 on the bottom and E5 on the top. Oftentimes, these singers will sing mezzo soprano roles in musicals that have smaller ranges such as Young Anna in Frozen, Sister Robert Anne in Nunsense, or Gabriella Montez from High School Musical.
Contralto or Tenor (15-18)

This vocal part can be made up of male or female singers. Those who identify as female are called contraltos, and those who identify as male are considered tenors. These singers have an approximate range of C3-C5, and often sing Alto or Tenor in a chorus setting. Some notable Contralto/Tenor roles include: Madame Flora in The Medium, Ursula in The Little Mermaid, Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, or Olaf in Frozen. Contralto is the most rale female voice type. AC & the Virtual Virtuosos has two regular Contralto singers: Megahn Howard and Jeannette Ocampo Welch.
Baritone (19-22)

Baritones typically have a voice range of about G2-G4 and are most comfortable in the middle of their voices. These singers often sing bass in a typical choir setting. Notable baritone roles include Aladdin from Aladdin, The Wizard in Wicked, and Chief Tui in Moana. This is the most common vocal type for male singers. Baritone singers that have participated in past shows for AC & the Virtual Virtuosos include John Chen and Raja Vaidya.
Bass (23-24)
Basses typically have a vocal range of about D2-E4 with transitions around A3 and D5. Notable bass roles include Scar in The Lion King, Gregory Goyle in a Very Potter Musical, and Rasputin from Anastasia. This is the most rare voice type for male singers.
