Opera has always been a special kind of magic for me. Unlike musicals, where mezzosopranos tend to get all the good parts, opera gives sopranos like me the spotlight. I first fell in love with opera during college when I took an opera workshop and performed as Mrs. Gobineau in The Medium. I was drawn to how naturally opera suited my voice. The lead role in many operas is often a soprano, and there’s no need to edit or adjust the part to fit—it’s already made for my vocal range.
In musicals, I’ve often found myself leaning toward male roles because, when taken up the octave, they fit my voice better than the traditional female parts. But with opera, that’s not a concern. The roles are written for voices like mine—high, powerful, and expressive. This makes opera a deeply personal and fulfilling experience for me as a singer, and it’s one of the reasons I love teaching it to others.
Why Take Opera Singing Lessons?
If you’re a soprano (or aspiring one), opera can be a thrilling way to explore the full potential of your voice. And for anyone interested in opera, lessons provide the perfect opportunity to learn how to approach this dramatic and technical art form. In opera lessons, I’ll help you:
- Develop Your Vocal Technique: Opera requires impeccable control, breath support, and resonance. Together, we’ll work on the technical aspects of your voice so that you can sing those soaring arias with confidence.
- Perform with Confidence: Opera isn’t just about singing—it’s about fully inhabiting a role. You’ll learn how to convey deep emotion and tell a story through your voice and stage presence.
- Expand Your Vocal Range: Whether you’re a soprano, mezzo, or other voice type, we’ll focus on expanding your range and vocal power in a healthy way, so you can sing even the most challenging parts.
My Experience with Opera
Although I’ve been singing for over 30 years, my love for opera truly took off in college. Playing Mrs. Gobineau was the first time I felt how naturally opera fit my voice. From there, my passion grew, and today, I incorporate my love for this art form into my teaching. I’ve been teaching music for two years now, after spending over a decade teaching individuals with autism as a behavior therapist.
What to Expect in Opera Singing Lessons

Every student is unique, and I tailor each lesson to fit your needs and goals. Whether you’re just starting out with opera or already have experience, your lessons will be designed to help you grow and thrive:
- Personalized Approach: I believe that no two voices are the same. Your lessons will focus on your strengths and areas for improvement, and we’ll work together to build the skills you need to reach your full potential.
- Breath Control and Stamina: Opera demands excellent breath control and stamina. We’ll spend time on exercises that strengthen your breath support and prepare you for the long, sustained phrases that are often found in opera.
- Performance Coaching: If you’re preparing for a performance or audition, we’ll work on your stage presence and how to bring your character to life through your voice and movement.
Learn Opera Singing Online
My opera lessons are held online via Zoom, so you can join from anywhere in the U.S. For the best experience, I recommend using a computer (not a Chromebook), as Zoom settings work best there. If you’re using an iPad, you can adjust the settings to activate “Original Sound for Musicians,” which ensures that Zoom doesn’t misinterpret your high notes as background noise.
Opera for All Ages
Whether you’re a teen dreaming of a career in opera or an adult rediscovering your love for music, I offer lessons for students of all ages. Opera is timeless, and it’s never too late (or too early!) to begin exploring this powerful art form.

Beyond individual lessons, I run virtual shows based on operas and musicals, where singers can showcase their talents. Participating in these shows is an exciting way to gain experience and refine your opera skills in a supportive environment.
