For me, music is a powerful means of expressing things I can’t say. Sometimes, words just aren’t enough, and that’s where music comes in—it’s as essential to me as breathing. I’ve spent over 30 years immersed in music, starting with the flute at age 10 and truly finding my voice through singing at 11 when I joined the chorus. Before that, I sang at home, but it was in chorus that I learned proper technique.
Though I’ve only been teaching music for the last two years, my experience working one-on-one with children with autism for over a decade has equipped me with valuable skills for teaching music. I even directed mini musicals with those students, each lasting about 15 minutes. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how to connect with students and tailor my approach to their unique needs. Additionally, I hold a minor in music and have actively taught participants in my music shows.
Music as a Catalyst for Personal Growth

Music can be a transformative experience. Through my lessons, I strive to help students develop not only their musical skills but also essential life skills. Here’s how music lessons foster personal growth:
- Building Confidence: As students learn to sing or play an instrument, they gain confidence in their abilities. Performing in front of others, whether in lessons or shows, helps them overcome fears and build self-esteem.
- Enhancing Discipline: Learning music requires practice and commitment. Students learn to set goals, manage their time, and work diligently toward their objectives—skills that are invaluable in every aspect of life.
- Fostering Emotional Expression: Music offers a unique outlet for emotions. I encourage my students to explore their feelings through their music, allowing them to express themselves in ways they might not be able to with words.
- Promoting Social Skills: In group settings and shows, students learn to collaborate, communicate, and support each other. These experiences foster teamwork and help them develop lasting friendships.
I create a supportive environment where students of all ages can thrive. Each lesson is an opportunity for them to explore their potential, overcome challenges, and discover the joy of music.
Unleashing Creativity Through Music Lessons
I encourage my students to use their voices and instruments to explore their feelings, creating a space for genuine self-expression. When teaching singing, I help students tap into their inner worlds, allowing them to convey emotions that might otherwise remain unexpressed. With the flute, I guide them through structured practice while encouraging creativity. Learning to play an instrument is a journey that combines discipline with personal expression.

System Requirements for Online Lessons
To ensure a smooth learning experience, having a computer (not a Chromebook) is crucial. While some required settings can be found on an iPad outside of a meeting, using a reliable computer provides the best functionality.
I recommend enabling Original Sound on Zoom. This feature is essential for musicians, as it prevents the platform from misinterpreting high notes as screaming, which is particularly important for female singers navigating their upper registers. Proper sound settings enhance the overall experience, allowing you to focus on your music without technical interruptions.
The Joy of Musical Theatre
Beyond individual lessons, I also run auditions for music shows, many inspired by popular musicals, operas, and Disney films. Currently, these shows are volunteer-based, but I hope to eventually develop AC & the Virtual Virtuosos into a professional theater company. Participating in these performances allows students to take what they learn in lessons and showcase it on stage. The experience of performing for an audience is exhilarating and serves as a vital component of their musical education.
If you join one of my shows, you’ll receive a buy one, get one free coupon code for your first purchase after the performance (excluding the free lesson). It’s my way of encouraging continued growth and rewarding hard work.
Participating in these productions teaches teamwork, discipline, and the joy of bringing a character to life. Whether you’re singing a solo or performing in an ensemble, you’ll learn to connect with an audience and share your passion for music.
